The Menstrual Cycle The menstrual cycle is a monthly series of changes a woman's body undergoes to prepare for potential pregnancy. It typically lasts about 28 days but can range from 25 to 35 days. During this cycle, one egg is produced, and the uterine lining (endometrium) is prepared to accept and support a fertilized embryo. •Menstrual Cycle The cycle involves synchronized, recurring changes in the endometrium of non-pregnant women. It begins with the maturation of an ovum (egg) inside a follicle in the ovary. From day 1 to day 5, the uterine lining breaks down and passes out with the unfertilized ovum, marking menstruation. Between days 6 and 13, the lining rebuilds under the influence of oestrogen, which stimulates its growth. On day 14, ovulation occurs—the release of a mature egg.
