Chapter 3: Being a Responsible Leader - Critically Examining Ideas "The only thing we can't do is nothing." - Simon Sinek In the previous chapter, we focused on critically examining ourselves. This chapter will connect that work to critically examining ideas. In academia, frameworks, theories, and models are created and shared with peer approval, but that doesn't guarantee they are true or helpful for everyone. This book encourages you to evaluate these ideas from your unique perspective. Ask yourself: Does it make sense to me? Why or why not? Could it be useful in my field? Why or why not? Are there parts of a theory, framework, or model that I can add or remove? This work centers you as the knower, based on your background, experiences, and identities.
