• Blood vessels in humans Blood vessels are mainly classified into arteries, capillaries, and veins. Arteries carry blood from the heart to the body's tissues. They branch into smaller vessels called arterioles, which then divide into tiny capillaries. Capillaries connect to larger vessels called venules, which merge into veins. Veins return blood from the tissues back to the heart. Therefore, arteries and arterioles are connected to venules and veins through capillaries.
