Environmental ethics, ecological footprint, and weather basics
What is the current ecological footprint compared to sustainable resource use?
Notes
Ecological footprint We are using 30% more of the planets resources than are available on a sustainable basis Three examples ethical perspectives Anthrocentrism- only humans have rights Biocentrism- certain living thing also have value Ecocentrism- whole ecological systems have value Weather Snow- starts as snow, cold all the way down, stays snow (below 32) Rain- starts as snow, cold until halfway down, gets warm, turns to water Sleet- starts as snow, cold, turns to warm (water droplet), then cold again, ice pellet Freezing rain- starts as snow, then gets warm, then cold again, causing it to freeze on the surface. It gets cold enough to freeze but it’s not cold long enough to solidify like sleet does.
