Electricity: energy use, efficiency, dissipation, and generation (renewables vs non-renewables)
What is useful energy?
Notes
# USing electricity 1) Useful energy Definition - energy that does what we want - in the right place - in the right form Examples ~ light from a lamp movement of a car heat from a heater 2) Wasted energy Definition - energy that is not useful and spreads away - goes in the wrong place - or in the wrong time Examples ~ unwanted light heat from machines sound (noise) Important! (most wasted energy becomes heat (thermal energy)) 3) Dissipation Definition - when energy spreads out into surroundings and can't be used again. Examples ~ - a bulb gives light heat - heat spreads into the room - wasted energy = dissipated 4) Friction & Resistance Friction -> when Surfaces (sub together - Causes heat (wasted energy) - Slows things down Resistance -> Happens in electrical wires - electricity struggles to flow - produces heat -> wasted energy. 5) Lubricants -> oil/grease spread between Surfaces - reduce friction - reduce heat loss - makes movement smoother Insulation -> materials that stop heat escaping - keeps energy useful - used in houses (or a cozy and warm vibe) Efficiency (very important) -> how much energy is useful vs wasted Example ~ Ficament bulb: - 20% useful (l...
