Introduction I have been studying leadership, transformation and psychology for over twenty years. As a first gen, low-socioeconomic student, it was rare to come across scholarship that felt accessible to me. I struggled and persevered until eventually it made sense, but it was a long and challenging journey. At many points I questioned whether I was even capable or worthy, but now I know that this inaccessibility is less about me, and more about the system. Higher education was not constructed for me, or people like me. And that is what leads me to this book. There are many, many great leadership texts, but there are very few written with brand new students of leadership in mind. I struggled to find a book that checked all the boxes I was looking for to serve our Introduction to Leadership course. I could piece together several textbooks, but then the class became too expensive for students, further contributing to the issue of inaccessibility.
