Introduction I have studied leadership, transformation, and psychology for over twenty years. As a first-generation, low-socioeconomic student, scholarship opportunities often felt inaccessible to me. I struggled and persevered until it made sense, but it was a long, challenging journey. At many points, I questioned my capability and worthiness. Now I understand that this inaccessibility is less about me and more about the system. Higher education was not designed for people like me. This realization leads me to this book. While many excellent leadership texts exist, few are written with new students of leadership in mind. I struggled to find a book that met all the needs of our Introduction to Leadership course. Using multiple textbooks made the class too expensive for students, further contributing to inaccessibility. After careful consideration, I decided to write the text our program needs. This is a basic, foundational leadership book, not aimed at scholars. My goal is to make learning about leadership and scholarship accessible and easy to understand.
