Chapter 3 The Nervous System Plasticity- shapes and organizes both our conscious and unconscious neural processes. Integration- It’s the brain’s ability to change and adapt based on what you learn or experience. Adaptability- adjusting to the world Central nervous system- Brain and spinal cord Peripheral nervous system- Peripheral means "outer." This is any part of the nervous system not in the brain or spinal cord. ● Automatic nervous system- The part of the peripheral nervous system that controls the more automatic functions of the body. ● Somatic nervous system-Literally, of the body. The division of the peripheral nervous system that controls the movement of the torso, head, and limbs. These are the nerves that control and communicate with skeletal muscles. ● Sympathetic nervous system-The division of your autonomic nervous system that is responsible for things we do that require excitement. Well designed for physical stressors.
