# Anatomy - Upper Limb Sept 18, 2024 ## Shoulder region ### Bones: - Clavicle β†’ connects sternum to scapula (only bony link), superficial, easy to palpate - Scapula β†’ flat, triangular bone (posterior) β†’ spine, acromion, coracoid process - Humerus β†’ proximal end = head (articulates w/ glenoid fossa) ### Joints: - Glenohumeral β†’ synovial, ball-and-socket (↑ range of motion, ↓ stability) - Acromioclavicular β†’ plane synovial - Sternoclavicular β†’ saddle synovial ## Muscles (rotator cuff): - Supraspinatus β†’ initiation of abduction (0-15Β°) - Infraspinatus β†’ external rotation - Teres minor β†’ external rotation - Subscapularis β†’ internal rotation ## Other muscles: - Deltoid β†’ main abductor (15-90Β°) - Pectoralis major β†’ adduction, internal rotation - Latissimus dorsi β†’ adduction, internal rotation - Teres major β†’ adduction, internal rotation ## Neurovascular structures: - Axillary nerve β†’ deltoid + teres minor (sensory: lateral shoulder) - Axillary artery β†’ around surgical neck of humerus - Brachial plexus β†’ C5-T1 (roots β†’ trunks β†’ divisions β†’ cords β†’ branches) ## Clinical: - Most common dislocation = anterior (arm in abduction + external rotation) - Risk of axillary nerve injury - Rotator cu...
