3 RD TERM Irish Music and the Gaelic Language Introduction Ireland has a long history of music and culture. One special part of this culture is the Gaelic language , also called Irish. Gaelic is one of the oldest languages in Europe, but fewer people speak it today. To keep the language alive (vivo) , many singers and bands perform songs in Gaelic. Through (a través) music, they share Irish traditions and history with people around the world. Traditional Irish Music Irish music often uses instruments like the tin whistle (flauta irlandesa) , bodhrán (Irish drum), harp , and fiddle (violin tradicional) . Traditional Irish songs tell stories about love, nature, or life in the past. Many of these songs are in Gaelic and hav e been passed down (han sido transmitidas) for generations. Famous Irish Singers and Bands Clannad Clannad is a band from Donegal, a region in the N orth of Ireland. They mix traditional Irish music with modern styles like pop and folk. Many of their songs are in Gaelic, like "Dúlamán" , a fun song about collecting seaweed (algas marinas) . Altan Altan is a popular traditional band.
