🧪 CHEMISTRY 1. 🔬 THE STRUCTURE OF THE ATOM Atoms are the basic building blocks of matter. (Los átomos son los bloques básicos de la materia). An atom has three particles: protons, neutrons, and electrons. (Un átomo tiene tres partículas: protones, neutrones y electrones). Protons have a positive charge (+). (Los protones tienen carga positiva (+)). Neutrons have no charge (0). (Los neutrones no tienen carga (0)). Electrons have a negative charge (–). (Los electrones tienen carga negativa (–)). Protons and neutrons are in the nucleus, in the center of the atom. (Los protones y neutrones están en el núcleo, en el centro del átomo). Electrons move around the nucleus in energy levels (called shells). (Los electrones se mueven alrededor del núcleo en niveles de energía – llamados capas). 2. 🔢 ATOMIC NUMBER AND MASS NUMBER The atomic number (Z) is the number of protons in an atom.
