How does climate affect crop development?
Apuntes
Climate: abundant rainfall is beneficial for crops, but lack of rainfall hinders their development. 2. Relief: affects the altitude (plus or minus altitude), the orientation of the slopes (north or south) and whether there are plains or valleys. 3. Soil: a thicker soil layer means that roots have more room to grow and the soil texture affects its ability to retain water. 1. Demographic pressure: population growth requires more land and higher productivity. 2. Relocation: to reduce the cost of employing workers, agricultural companies move to less developed countries (lower costs). 3. Economic structure: countries that dominate the market use commercial agriculture (food is grown to be sold). Countries with less trade use subsistence agriculture (producing for consumption, not for trade). 4. Political organisation: governments must develop environmentally friendly legislation. 5. Technological advances: use to increase productivity.
