Expansion of the conquest and exploitation of the indigenous people. The conquest of Tenochtitlán signified a radical change in the political, economic, social and cultural spheres; from this point on, a new culture began to form, integrating indigenous, Spanish and other cultural elements. After the fall of Tenochtitlán, the Spanish organized more expeditions to consolidate their hold. In 1522, an expedition led by Cristóbal de Olid traveled to the Purépecha region to negotiate with them and militarily occupy the area.
