This metaphor appears in the lyrics to the Aerosmith song "Amazing": "Life's a journey not a destination". Simile: A figure of speech in which two fundamentally unlike things are explicitly compared, usually in a phrase introduced by like or as. Similes allow an author to emphasize a certain characteristic of an object by comparing that object to an unrelated object that is an example of that characteristic. "He was like a cock who thought the sun had risen to hear him crow." (George Eliot, Adam Bede, 1859) "Good coffee is like friendship: rich and warm and strong."
