TEMA 2 SOCIALES 1. What factors influence agriculture? FACTORS that make farming easier or more difficult: • Climate: Extreme weather makes farming difficult, but greenhouses create the right temperature and humidity to grow plants. • Terrain: Altitude and the shape of the land affect farming. It is more common in flat areas. In mountains, people use terraces or “steps.” • Soil: The texture and composition of the soil determine what types of crops can be grown. How is farmland organized? • Size and shape: Farms can be large estates or small plots. Fields are more regular in flat areas and irregular in mountains. • Limits: Fields can be closed with fences or walls, or open with no marked limits. • Use: The land can be used for farming, livestock, or forestry. Sometimes different activities are combined depending on the land. Farming types Agrarian landscapes can be classified according to farming systems and types of crops: • Variety of species: o Monoculture → one single crop. o Polyculture → several crops on the same land. • Type of crop: o Herbaceous (cereals), o Woody shrubs (like grapes), o Trees (like olive trees). • Type of production: o Intensive farming: High production, mo...
