In exchange, Austria received Spanish territories in Flanders and Italy, while Britain received Gibraltar and Menorca. Inside Spain, opposition to Felipe ended when Barcelona was taken in 1714. Felipe V centralized the administration with the Nueva Planta Decrees, which abolished the charters and institutions of the Crown of Aragon.
