• Characteristics: In the higher altitude rainforests, the climate tends to be cold, and fog is present. The forest floor is damp, as it receives only about 2% of sunlight. Plant and animal remains decompose here. The equatorial rainforest is located between 10° north and south latitude. It includes the Amazon rainforest, the Congo rainforest, the islands of Southeast Asia, and New Guinea (Malaysia), as well as the east coast of Brazil, Central America, Madagascar, northeast Australia, and the Indochina Peninsula.
