•Human Reproduction •1. Male reproductive system •A. PENIS The penis consists of erectile tissue and connective tissue with spaces that fill with blood during erection. It contains two corpora cavernosa and one spongiosum. The corpus spongiosum surrounds the urethra, keeping it open at all times, and widens at the end to form the glans. The glans is protected by the foreskin, which retracts during erection to leave the glans uncovered. •B. TESTICLES Located outside the abdominal cavity within a skin sac called the scrotum, the testicles contain seminiferous tubules. Sperm precursor cells line the walls of these tubules, producing male gametes. The temperature inside the scrotum is about 3°C lower than the rest of the body, allowing sperm to mature properly. •C. GENITAL TRACT These are ducts that transport sperm outside the body. **Epididymis:** A long, coiled tube attached to the top of each testicle, where sperm is stored and matures. **Urethra:** A duct that expels semen and urine from the body. **Vas deferens:** Carries secretions from accessory glands and transports sperm. •D.
