Under the governance of the Argentinian dictatorship (1976 - 1982) of Rafael Videla, Ricardo Bruera was the first minister of Education who would bring forward educational policies that would prosecute people in institutions, from secondary schools to universities. There was a massive purge of teachers during his time. For instance, in Bahia Blanca University in 1977, there was a purge of 31 teachers, a numerous number in contrast to previous purges since the commencement of the dictatorship, and that number would increase to approximately more than 200 in the next years. From the percentage of people that went ‘missing’ as Videla called them, or disappeared, estimated to be 30 000 based on the claims of relatives and acquaintances, 40% were teachers, professionals and students.
