What is a solid?
Apuntes
A solid is a state of matter that has a definite shape and volume. The particles are tightly packed and vibrate in place. Un sĂłlido tiene forma y volumen definidos, y sus partĂculas están muy juntas. A gas is a state of matter with no definite shape or volume. Its particles move freely and spread out to fill the container. Un gas no tiene forma ni volumen definidos, y sus partĂculas se mueven libremente. A liquid has a definite volume but no definite shape. It takes the shape of its container, and its particles can move around each other. Un lĂquido tiene volumen definido pero no forma fija. Plasma is a high-energy state of matter where gases are ionized (they have charged particles). It’s found in stars, lightning, and neon signs. It is an ionized gas where atoms have lost electrons El plasma es un gas con partĂculas cargadas, muy energĂ©tico. Characteristics of solid Definite shape Definite volume Particles are tightly packed Cannot flow easily Strong intermolecular forces Characteristics of gases: No definite shape No definite volume Particles move freely Compressible Expands to fill container characteristics of liquids: Definite volume No definite shape Particles s...
