RESPIRATION & EXCRETION UNIT 4 3rd ESO BIOLOGY 1. Cellular respiration • Process where eukaryotic cells get the energy they need to live (C,H,O) + O2 CO2 + H2O + ENERGY (ATP) • The energy obtained is not released as heat --> it's stored as chemical bonds (ATP) 1. Cellular respiration 1. Cellular respiration ATP: Adenosine triphosphate ADP: Adenosine diphosphate Pi: Inorganic posphate Exercices.1, 2, 3, 5 Synthesi of ATP: ADP + Pi + Energy ATP + H2O Release of Energy: ATP + H2O ADP + Pi + Energy 2. The Respiratory System The responsible of capturing O2 from the air and releasing CO2. It’s constituted by: Nasal cavities: connect the R.S. with the exterior. Turbinates which warm the air we breathe. Pharynx: Vessel that connects nasal cavities, mouth, oesophagus, larynx and Eustaquian tubes. Larynx: Between pharynx and trachea. Vocal cords. Trachea: organ formed by c-shaped cartilaginous rings. It’s able to trap air particles. Bronchi: two passages to lead the air to the lung. Lungs: spongy organs made of thousands of branches from bronchi, called bronchioles, which end with pulmonary alveoli where the air exchange is produced. 2. The Respiratory System 3. Pulmonary respiration 3.1. Pu...
