Why does moss survive well in the tundra?
Apuntes
• Peculiar Plants Moss dominates much of the tundra, which is cold all the time. It survives because it is very low to the ground and lives in groups. Its dark covering helps to absorb sunlight. In the rainforest, humidity and precipitation are high, and the growth of damaging fungi is a problem. Plants protect themselves with smooth, waxy leaves, which allow rainwater to slide off easily. Giant sequoias live in an environment where fires are a common problem. They have very thick, fire-resistant bark, which protects the plant's tissue from damage when it is burned. The eucalyptus is just one example of a plant that actually needs fire to reproduce. Its cones are sealed with resin. The only way their seeds can be released from the cones is when the heat from a fire melts the outer layer.
