This process results in landforms such as deltas, floodplains, meanders, and ox-bow lakes. â˘Hydrology Hydrology is the scientific study of water's movement, distribution, and quality on Earth. It covers the water cycle, rainfall, runoff, infiltration, and groundwater. â˘Drainage Drainage refers to the area of land where precipitation collects and drains into a common outlet, such as a river, lake, or ocean. â˘Tributary A tributary is a river or stream that flows into and joins a larger river or stream. â˘River source The river source is where a river begins, often in highlands or mountains, typically from springs, melting snow, or rainfall. â˘Drainage basin A drainage basin, also called a watershed, is an area of land where all precipitation collects and drains into a common outlet, such as a river, lake, or ocean....
