• Lipids (Fats and Oils) Lipids include fats and oils. Lipids that are solid at room temperature are classified as fats, while those that are liquid at room temperature are oils. All fats and oils are considered lipids. **Where do we find them?** In foods such as: - Avocado - Olive oil - Meat - Nuts - Seeds - Coconut **Why do we need them?** Lipids provide a source of energy, often serving as a longer-term energy store. They also help keep us warm by insulating our bodies and protecting our organs. --- • Proteins **Where do we find them?** Proteins are found in a range of foods, particularly in: - Eggs - Meat (chicken, pork, beef, fish) - Seeds - Legumes **Why do we need them?** Proteins are essential for growth and repair of damaged tissues. They can also be used for energy, but only in emergencies. To be absorbed, molecules must be small and water-soluble. **Digestion of Proteins** Proteins are broken down by digestion into smaller units called monomers, which are amino acids.
