In 2015, leaders from all over the world met at the United Nations in New York. They made a very important promise: to create a better world by the year 2030. This plan is called the 2030 Agenda, and it contains 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These goals are an urgent call for action by all countries—developed and developing—in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth, all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests. Why are these goals important? The goals are important because our world faces big problems. Many people are still very poor and do not have enough food to eat. In some countries, children cannot go to school or see a doctor when they are sick. Also, our planet is in danger because of pollution and climate change. The SDGs are a "to-do list" to fix these problems. The UN says: "No one should be left behind." This means we must help everyone, in every country. We can all help.
