Falcón State is one of the 23 states of Venezuela, located in the northwestern region of the country. Its capital is Coro (founded on July 26, 1527, considered the "root city of Venezuela"). Falcón is in northeastern Venezuela, bordering the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Venezuela to the north, the states of Lara and Yaracuy to the south, the Caribbean Sea to the east, and the state of Zulia to the west. It is divided into 25 municipalities. Two of its most prominent monuments are General Antonio José de Sucre Square and the Arch of Liberty. The flag: Blue: the sky and the sea; Red: evokes the struggle for freedom; Yellow and white: light, justice, and purity; Sun and moon: American liberty. Falcón State has 15 higher education institutions, including universities and other institutions, both private and public.
