CAPITALISM / LIBERALISM The economic system “created” during the Industrial Revolution was capitalism, which was the development of a liberal political belief. Capitalism is an economic system where the government plays a secondary role. People and companies make most of the economic decisions and own most of the property. The means of production are largely or entirely privately owned by individuals or companies and operated for profit. Capitalism is related to free trade (and sometimes to protectionism) and the market economy, which means prices move up or down according to the demand for products. PROLETARIAN IDEOLOGIES The first great milestone for proletarian ideologies was Karl Marx and Frederic Engels's publication of the Communist Manifesto in 1848. In it, they analysed the approaches to class struggle and differences with capitalism.
