Lecture 1: Web Fundamentals I ‐ Introduction In a very brief period of time since its inception, the Internet and more specifically the World Wide Web have become an indispensable part of everyday life. We turn to the web for our daily needs to find information, communicate and even maintain our social life rather than using other more traditional means. Information on the web is disseminated with great speed, with most businesses now offering customers a more personalized experience and methods of information access to assist them in their learning and decision making. Nevertheless, in the past decade the web has slowly evolved from being an information dissemination tool to a platform where people perform regular job tasks using web‐based applications. The direct connection with other people and organizations has enabled people and businesses to improve their productivity by streamlining formerly complex processes.
