Chapter One Literature Review Teaching English as a foreign language has undergone significant developments, embracing modern technologies that emphasize communication and student growth. This review provides insight into the interactions between innovative approaches, teaching methods, and teaching roles, motivation, and experience. Its aim is to identify trends and challenges in this field and improve the effectiveness of English language teaching. What is teaching? According to Vélez & Power (2020), teaching, being a basic human function, has been theorized and researched from various philosophical perspectives over the years. This development of perspectives has not only allowed us to understand the teaching process, but has also allowed teachers to plan strategies, helping to understand that these events can be found in different real-life situations and in different contexts. Teaching is not only limited to the transmission of knowledge but is a complex act that involves guiding and facilitating the comprehensive development of the student in diverse and changing contexts that we are currently going through.
