AILED CONTENTS: 1. What is a Force? • Definition: A force is a push or pull, an interaction that one object exerts on another. • Forces are not properties of a single object; they always involve two objects (the one applying the force and the one receiving it). • Effects of Forces: o Change in motion (start, stop, speed up, slow down, change direction) o Change in shape (compression, stretching, deformation) • Unit of Force: o The newton (N): 1 N is the force needed to give a 1 kg mass an acceleration of 1 m/s². Examples: • Kicking a ball (the foot applies a force to the ball). • Pulling open a door (your hand applies a force to the door). 2. Representing Forces (Vectors) • Forces are vector quantities-they have: o Magnitude (how strong) o Direction (vertical, horizontal, diagonal…) o Sense (which way along the direction, e.g., up/down) o Point of application (where on the object the force acts) • How to Draw Forces: o Use arrows (vectors). The longer the arrow, the stronger the force. o The arrow starts from the point of application, shows direction and sense. 3. Resultant Force and Centre of Mass • Resultant Force (Net Force): o When multiple forces act on one object, combine the...
