DEFINITION Homonyms are words that are spelled the same (homographs) and/or pronounced the same (homophones) but have different meanings, depending on context. There are two main types: True Homonyms – Words that are both spelled and pronounced the same but have unrelated meanings. Homographs/Homophones – Words that share either spelling (homographs) or pronunciation (homophones) but differ in meaning.
