Classification of materials and structure-property relationship Introduction to materials; - Focuses on synthesizing new materials and develop techniques to develop new products - There are 4 components of the discipline: ● Processing ● Structure - Macroscopic level → manufacturing a product, structural elements that can be viewed with the naked eye - Microscopic level → large groups of atoms that are normally agglomerated together - Atomic level → how atoms bond with each other, organization of atoms or molecules relative to one another - Subatomic level → how molecules of materials are organized, electrons and nuclei within the individual atoms ● Properties - Mechanical - Electrical - Thermal - Magentic - Optical - Deteriorative - Biological ● Performance What changes do i need to do in the material, to get the best of it → Materials Engineering Interrelationship of components; The difference between the disks is the opacity, but they have the same chemical formula. - The opacity is achieved by the difference in structure, their atomic level is the same - first one is transparent, last on opaque - Transparent → amorphous - Opaq...
