She studies every night. ⸻ 2) Independent Clause Identify: • Has subject + verb • Expresses a complete thought • Can stand alone Example: I finished my homework. ⸻ 3) Dependent Clause Identify: • Has subject + verb • Does NOT express a complete idea • Usually starts with: because, although, when, if, since, while, after, before, that, who, which Example: Because I was tired ❌ How to fix: Attach it to an independent clause: • Because I was tired, I slept early. • I slept early because I was tired. ⸻ 4) Conjunctions A) Coordinating Conjunctions (FANBOYS) for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so Identify: • Used to connect two independent clauses • Needs a comma before the conjunction Example: I studied, and I passed the exam.
