``` U2. Properties of Matter 1. Matter and its Properties 2. Density 3. States of Aggregation 4. The Kinetic Theory of Matter 5. Gas Laws • Subtopic: Matter and Its Properties Matter is anything that has mass and occupies space (volume), such as a chair. Examples of matter include joy, building, sand, fire, oxygen, water, sadness, mercury, electricity, and light. Mercury (Hg) is an example of a substance that flows due to energy, causing matter to move. Air, a gas, is a mixture that is invisible and involved in combustion (reductions), such as O₂ and H₂O. Electromagnetic radiation, in the form of photons and waves, is a form of energy. Properties of matter can be categorized as general or specific. General properties can take different values for the same material and do not allow differentiation between materials, such as mass and volume. Specific properties show a unique value for each material, allowing differentiation, such as density and boiling point. • Subtopic: Mass, Volume, and Density Mass, volume, and density are scalar quantities. Vector quantities have magnitude and direction, such as speed (3 m/s) and velocity (3 m/s). ✱ Mass (m) is the measure of the amount of...
