What should you do to verbs that end in 'e' when forming the present participle?

• Spelling Tip **Verbing (Present Participle)** To form the present participle, add "ing" to most verbs. For example, play becomes playing, cry becomes crying, and bark becomes barking. For verbs ending in "e," remove the "e" and add "ing" (e.g., slide > sliding, ride > riding). For verbs ending in "ie," change "ie" to "y" and add "ing" (e.g., die > dying, tie > tying). If a verb's last syllable is a stressed consonant-vowel-consonant, double the last letter before adding "ing" (e.g., beg > begging, begin > beginning). However, for enter, the last syllable is not stressed, so it becomes entering. I go running every day. **Gerund at the beginning of the sentence:** Running is my favorite workout. I eat fruits every day. Eating fruits is my favorite snack. **Gerund followed by a verb:** I quit running a year ago. I look forward to helping you paint the house. **Infinitives without changing the meaning of the sentence:** Some people prefer getting up early in the morning.
