Terms to Know (Definitions) • Sovereignty: "This is the exclusive right to exercise supreme authority over a geographic region, a group of people or oneself. Usually (not always) a leader in this type of government is a monarch, and the government possesses full control over its own affairs and territories." • Self Governance: "Refers to the scale of an organization. It can also refer to people, family, industry, religion and political units. The self-governance of a nation's states can also be referred to as national sovereignty, while the self-governance of cities is referred to as urban autonomy." • UN: "The United Nations was established in 1945 after WW2 and since then has grown to include 191 nations. The UN is open to all 'peace-loving nations' in the world." • Inalienable Rights: "These are rights that are not transferable to other people. These rights include all fundamental rights for a person, such as the rights to religion, free speech, due process and protection under law." • Polarity: "The Fewer the Number of Great Powers, the More Stable is the International State System and Vice Versa.
