The structure of the geosphere The geosphere is the solid part of the Earth, it has a radio of 6371 km. It is compound of different layers: ➡️ The crust: Is the thinner layer among the other layers. It’s divided into 2 parts: • Continental crust :the part that isn’t covered in water (70 km) • Oceanic crust :the part that is covered in water (10 km) ➡️ The mantle: Is the middle layer, it thickness is around 2900 km. It consists of denser rocks. Its temperature and pressure increase with the depth. Some areas are molten, and that makes magma. ➡️ The core: Is the innermost layer, its has radio of 3500 km, and it has a high temperature. It is divided into 2 parts: • Outer core :(which is liquid) • Inner core :(which is solid) What’s the importance of the geosphere? The geosphere is the base for the hydrosphere and atmosphere, so is the physical environment that most of the living things live. For humans it is important because we can get natural resources like soil, rocks, minerals and fossil fuels. The bad thing is that this materials are not renewable, just because they take a lot of time to form. Minerals Minerals are the basic components of the geosphere. Characteristics: ➤ They ...
