Difference Between Biome and Other Concepts Biomes are often confused with other terms which, while related, have distinct meanings: • Ecosystem: The interaction of biotic (living) and abiotic (nonliving) factors, meaning living beings interacting with their physical environment. • Ecozone: A large expanse of the Earth's surface (there are six ecozones in the world) where living beings such as plants and animals developed in isolation due to natural barriers like oceans, mountain ranges, or deserts.
