Basic Traumatic Injuries Definition: An injury or wound is defined as any disruption of anatomical continuity or physiological function caused by the application of mechanical force. Classification of injuries may be divided into two major categories: 1. Injuries in which the skin remains intact (closed injuries): 1. Bruises (contusions) 2. Hematomas 3. Erythema 2. Injuries involving disruption of the skin: 1. Abrasions 2. Lacerations 3. Incised wounds (cuts, slashes, stab wounds) 4. Chop wounds (split wounds) 5.
